10.2.4 Software Dependencies: Your product contains drivers that have not been provided by Microsoft
This comes in the certification report, under 10.2.4 or 10.2.4.2 Security - Software Dependencies. A related message says the product contains NT service(s) that have not been provided by Microsoft.
What it means
Policy 10.2.4 says products generally can't depend on drivers or NT services that Microsoft didn't provide. Microsoft may consider WHCP certified drivers case by case, and you must disclose any such dependency in the notes for certification.
The Windows App Certification Kit's registry check for packaged desktop apps fails for the same reason. It looks for a package that registers a new service or driver.
How to fix it
- Remove the driver or service from the package if the app can work without it.
- If the app can't work without it, say so in Notes for certification and ask for an exception. It may be refused. A Microsoft moderator said only a few accounts, such as Microsoft partners and OEMs, meet the criteria, and Microsoft doesn't publish them.
- If your product depends on other software to deliver its main function, policy 10.2.4 also asks you to say so at the start of the description.
