How to translate your Microsoft Store listing into other languages

Add the language to your listing in Partner Center, then write its description and the rest of its text, either one language page at a time or all at once in an exported CSV file. Each language needs at least a description and a screenshot, and Microsoft's policies ask you to localize the description in every language you declare. StoreFast can fill in the missing text for you in your listing's own style.

You can translate a listing in Partner Center for free, one language at a time or with a CSV. If you'd rather not write each language yourself, StoreFast drafts them from one language and sends them with your next update.

  • Partner Center shows the languages from your packages, and you can add listing languages your packages don’t include.
  • You edit each language on its own page, or export every language to one CSV file, edit it and import it again.
  • The description and one screenshot are required in every language. Everything else is optional.
  • In StoreFast, Translate missing fills every empty field in every language, and you check it before sending.

Which languages can a Microsoft Store listing have?

The Store supports over 100 languages. Once you've uploaded packages, Partner Center lists the languages they support on the app overview page, and Microsoft's listing docs recommend a listing in each of them. You can remove the ones you don't want a listing for, and under Manage additional languages you can add listings in languages your packages don't support.

The product name works differently from the rest. It's one of the names you reserved, and for a language with a package it comes from that package. The name people see after they install comes from the package manifest, so Microsoft recommends using the same name in each language's package and listing.

How to translate a listing in Partner Center

  1. 1

    Add the languages

On the app overview page, click Add/remove languages. Add any language that isn't in your packages under Manage additional languages, then save.

  2. 2

    Fill in each language

Select a language and fill in its listing. Microsoft's docs say you edit each language separately unless you export your listings.

  3. 3

Or use a CSV for all of them

Click Export listing to get a UTF-8 .csv file with a column for each language. Add a new language by typing its code in the next empty column of the top row. A field left empty in a language uses the default column. Then use Import listings to bring it back.

A few things the import and export docs warn about. Don't change the Field, ID or Type columns. Nothing from the file is saved until every error in it is fixed. New images go in by importing a folder with the CSV inside. And deleting a trailer's URL from the file removes that trailer from Partner Center.

Microsoft's localization policy also says that if a localized version of your app is missing features, the description has to say so. Our listing limits guide has every limit in one place.

How StoreFast translates a listing

The Store listing page shows every language of your live listing along the top. Pick a language under Translate from and click Translate missing. StoreFast fills the empty description, short description, features, search terms and screenshot captions of every other language. Nothing you've written is overwritten.

  • It writes in your listing's style. When StoreFast syncs your app, it writes a short style profile from your live listing, including how formal each language is and which names stay in English. The translations follow it, and you can edit it in the app's settings.
  • Search terms are written for each language. It asks for the terms speakers of that language would search for, not a word-for-word copy, and leaves out prices and other products' names.
  • It stays within the limits. Anything over the Store's limits gets one request to shorten it, and the page checks every field as you type. A language with a problem is marked, and errors block sending.
  • New languages are one click. Click Add a language, then Translate missing. The product name is copied from your package, not translated, and the copyright, license terms and developer name are taken from your English listing.
  • Screenshots are uploaded once. One set goes to every language, so a new language needs a new set, and each language can have its own captions.

Then click Save for next update to send the changes with your next package, or Send listing update to send them now. Translations share a daily limit with the rest of StoreFast's AI writing, which resets at midnight UTC. A coding agent connected to the MCP server can do the same with its translate_listing_missing tool.

  • Your app isn't in the Store yet. StoreFast edits the listing from the first published version on.

Questions

Do I have to translate my Microsoft Store listing?
Microsoft's Store policies say the text of your product's description must be localized in each language you declare. You can remove languages your packages support from the listing if you don't want to provide a listing in them.
Can I add a listing language my app doesn't support?
Yes. Partner Center's Manage additional languages adds listing languages that aren't in your packages. For those languages you also choose which of your reserved names to show, since there's no package to take it from.
Does StoreFast overwrite text I already wrote?
No. Translate missing only fills fields that are empty in each language, and you can read and edit everything before you send it.
Are search terms translated word for word?
No. StoreFast asks for the terms people who speak that language would type to find an app like yours, within the Store's limits of 7 terms, 40 characters each and 21 words in total.
Do I need different screenshots for each language?
In Partner Center, screenshots belong to each language. In StoreFast, one set of screenshots goes to every language, and captions can differ per language.
