Certification errors

Branding validation failed: the app uses default images

The Windows App Certification Kit reports this under branding validation, part of the app manifest resources tests.

What it means

The kit checks whether your app's images are the defaults from Visual Studio templates or SDK samples. Microsoft says apps using them look unfinished and are hard to tell apart in the Store, so the test fails.

How to fix it

  1. Open the Assets folder (or wherever your manifest's logos live) and replace every image that came with the project template, such as the StoreLogo, Square44x44Logo and Square150x150Logo files, with your own.
  2. Keep the same file names and sizes so the manifest still points at them, or update the manifest to match.
  3. Rebuild and run the kit again.
