The image {image name} failed the size restrictions
The Windows App Certification Kit reports this under the app manifest resources test. In the real message, {image name} is the image that failed, like Square44x44Logo.
What it means
The kit checks every image and string your manifest points to. If an image is the wrong size, missing or not a valid image, the app might not install, or its logo might not show correctly. The same test covers resources.pri, the file that maps those references to real files.
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| The image {image name} failed the size restrictions. | Make the image the size the manifest entry expects at its scale. See the sizes below. |
| The image {image name} is missing from the package. | Add the image to the package at the path the manifest uses. |
| The image {image name} is not a valid image file. | Save it again in a supported format, like PNG. |
| The image file {filename} must be smaller than 204800 bytes. | Make the image file smaller than 204,800 bytes (200 KB). |
| The image {image name} defines both Scale and TargetSize qualifiers; you can define only one qualifier at a time. | Give each image file a scale qualifier or a target size, not both. |
| The "resources.pri" file must contain a resource map with a name that matches the package name {package full name} | The manifest changed after resources.pri was made. Rebuild the package so resources.pri is made again. |
| There is no default resource specified in the "resources.pri" file. | Include scale-200 images, or set the project to include the images you have. Visual Studio only puts scale-200 images in the main package when it makes bundles. |
How to fix it
- Make each logo at the sizes Windows asks for. Microsoft's base sizes at 100% are Square44x44Logo 44 px, Square150x150Logo 150 px, Wide310x150Logo 310 by 150 px, Square310x310Logo 310 px, Square71x71Logo 71 px and StoreLogo 50 px. A scale-200 file is twice that, like Square44x44Logo.scale-200.png at 88 px.
- At least provide 100%, 200% and 400% versions of Square44x44Logo and Square150x150Logo. Windows picks the closest one for other scales.
- Check that every file the manifest names is in the package with that exact name, then rebuild and run the kit again.
